Utahs Outstanding Graduates: 13 Students from Across the State Prove They Are the Best for Business
by Heather Stewart and Jacob MoonIn our search for the best and brightest students being turned out by the state’s business schools, we went straight to the top. We asked the deans from the colleges of business at seven schools with traditional bachelors and masters programs whom they would recommend as their top achievers. After consulting with faculty and other administrators, each dean came back with these enthusiastic recommendations. We are pleased to present the 2007 Outstanding Gradutates.
We caught up with these students, breaking them away from their often busy schedules, to dig a little deeper and find out how they excel personally and professionally. In the following pages you’ll find examples of the high caliber of students being trained on campuses from Cedar City to Logan...
Caleb Miller
MACC
Spring 2007
Southern Utah University
Small classes and a solid accounting program were the major draws for Caleb Miller in choosing to attend Southern Utah University. Like many local students, Miller says he was already comfortable in the community and knew SUU would provide the attention he wanted as he pursued his degrees. Now ready to graduate with his master’s in accounting, Miller said he has been most impressed with the attention he received from his instructors and the job placement rate within the accounting program.
“It says a lot about the professors’ ability to teach the students what they need to know, and that shows that the employers are happy with what they get because they keep coming back,” Miller says.
Having accepted a position with the Salt Lake firm Tanner LC, Miller plans to now use his experience in student government—as business senator, academic vice president and controller—and as a assistant controller at The Leavitt Group to excel in the accounting world. A new father, Miller was offered positions with three other firms, but he says he chose Tanner because of its reputation for having strong ethics and family values.
