Style

Despite his severe lack of hair, we decided that it was time for Seth to get his first haircut minor trim. He had a couple of those long, old man, wiry hairs sticking is odd directions from behind his ears.

You really can’t tell a difference in the before and after pictures, other than that I styled it as well. But in person he looks much better now.

Although really, who is going to notice the hair anyway with those cute ears sticking straight out?

Mini Golf

Caleb had the day off on Friday so we took the kids mini golfing for the first time.

Makelle is just not competitive and never really got very into it. However, she
did enjoy prancing around in her pink prom dress with her pink ball... she is so weird!! :)

On the other hand, Corbin is already asking if we can go golfing, "like every single time Dad stays home."

We didn't get Seth a club, but he still had lots of fun chasing balls (his latest obsession) around and poking at things.

It was a pretty hot day, so afterwards we went and got a treat at Dairy Queen. Caleb and I decided to just share a blizzard... which resulted in us fighting like little children. "It's my turn, you already had like 3 bites!" Let's just say, it was good :)

Still Friends, After ALL These Years

We seem to have a lot of these pictures… there is just something so endearing about how good of friends these two are though, that I want to remember them at this stage before:

A: Corbin gets older and realizes he no longer enjoys his sister enough to want to cuddle and tell stories with her every night as they are falling asleep, or

B: Corbin gets older and realizes it is creepy to want to cuddle and tell stories with her every night as they are falling asleep :)

We still have to remind them occasionally that they can't marry each other when they grow up, that they are actually going to have to find someone else that they like even more than their sibling. To which they reply, "I will never find someone I like that much."

Camping

We took the kids camping for the first time this season. As the kids get older, it actually gets more and more fun to hang out with them. They are turning into fun little people rather than just time consuming, energy draining little babies... we love you Seth :)

We played Pooh Sticks (as explained in our Winnie the Pooh book), went hiking, searched for geocaches, roasted stuff, played in the dirt, read books, played with glow sticks, threw a football around and had a good time just hanging out as a family.

Buttons.

Last time Corbin was at his Grandma Lloyd's house he told her, "Grandma, do you want to hear something embarrassing?"

"What Corbin?"

"My little sister can do buttons, and I can't." :(

Corbin has always had horrible coordination. He is amazing at pretty much everything... other than, controlling his fine motor skills.

So we sometimes tease him a little and the other day we were getting ready for church and he asked one of us to button his shirt, but we were both busy, so we half jokingly/half seriously told him to go ask his sister to help him. To which he responds, "I already did... she is busy too."

She really does help do up his shirt for him almost every Sunday lately. It is pretty cute/pathetic :)

Water Fight!

Grandma Nash came up for a visit this weekend and brought the kids some little water shooters. Best gift ever! They spent ALL afternoon outside running around shooting water in each other's faces. For once they were actually sad when Dad got home, because that meant it was time to put away the toys and come in. They could have lasted all night too, if we'd have let them.

Swim Lessons

Now that Makelle is getting older and Corbin has a permanent friend around they don't get as bored and I find myself needing to entertain the kids less, so we decided to forego swim lessons this year. (I don't think they really learn that much compared to what they pick up swimming at home nearly every single day all summer long, it was always just a fun thing for Corbin to do.)

Then we found out that our pool needed to have the deck redone and construction was scheduled to start on June 1. So at the last minute we signed up for swim lessons again so that we could stay and play during free swim at the public pool for a couple weeks while we waited for ours to get done.

This year Makelle was old enough to start as well. I should have just put her with the older kids, because all 3-year-old swim lessons consist of is learning to do head bobs, blow bubbles in the water and sit on the edge kicking your feet, not crying when your own splashes hit you. Makelle can already push off from the wall and swim 10 feet out to you, even stopping on the way to take a breath. But again it wasn't so much for learning as it was for having fun and getting out of the heat in our non-air conditioned home, so it worked out fine.

The best part of the whole two weeks of lessons came on the last day. Caleb had the day off since we were getting ready for a camping trip and we were sitting there watching her sit on the edge, kicking her little feet, when Caleb asked, "Is that little boy trying to kiss her?"

"No, I am sure he is just leaning over to talk to her, it is pretty loud in here," I responded. "Wait, no... maybe he is. I can't tell, are his lips puckered?"

"Oh yes, he is definitely trying to kiss her!" As she leans away in a nearly horizontal position trying to dodge his advances.

Afterwards Caleb asked her what the other boy in her class was doing and she exclaims, "he was trying to kiss me, and I am not even married to him!"

"Why was he trying to kiss you?" "He just thought that I was cute!"

Somehow it was adorable when your kid is only 3. Something tells me that the poor kid would be missing a limb if Caleb ever observes a similar situation a few years down the road :)

Corbin's class basically just worked on learning the proper form for different strokes as they could all manage to stay afloat swimming across the pool... they just look horrible doing it! So we'll see how much his form improves as the summer passes and he tries to incorporate the little tips his teacher taught him about breathing and arm and leg motions.

Poor Sethers

On Sunday I was doing dishes in the kitchen and heard Seth scream. I turned around and he had gotten past the fake logs on our fireplace and poked the pilot light with the tip of his right index finger.

We rushed him over to the Instacare and they told us to take him into the Burn Center at the University Hospital in Salt Lake the next day.

As a Mom it looked horrible to me! You can see a little black spot on the very tip of his finger and then a giant flame shaped blister running up the rest of the finger, but the doctor says it actually isn't too bad and that he should heal fine.

However, he also told us to make sure and keep the wound clean and dry until it heals, in order to avoid infection. That is a nearly impossible task given that he is a baby, who crawls and it is summer. Swimming pools, playgrounds, finger foods. It is going to be a long few weeks.

So we double wrapped the bandage all the way around his entire hand and covered him with a sock up to his armpit and he and I have been sitting on the sidelines watching everyone play and swim without us.

We tell people he got bit by a contagious sock monkey and it is spreading up his arm... because that sounds better than admitting that his mom let him burn himself :(

30!?

Caleb turned 30, officially making him an 'old man.' We celebrated with a family dinner at the Lloyds' and then the kids stayed at Grandma's and we got to spend the next day on our own. We went and hit some golf balls on the driving range, went to dinner at our favorite restaurant, and saw the Avengers movie.

The in-laws found a jello mold. Corbin was actually really excited about it... poor kid has never heard of jello jigglers before.

The kids got Caleb the new Star Wars video game for the Kinect. Hardest part was waiting for Dad's birthday so that they could play :) It is difficult to persuade them to get something specially for Dad, when they are convinced that Dad's favorite thing in the world is playing with them.

Cute, bald baby.

Swedish fish.

Balloons. A.k.a hours of entertainment for the kids the next day.

In place of a cake we had 30 of Caleb's favorite treats... chocolate chip cookies and almond poppy seed muffins.

Cheetahs

Corbin played soccer again this Spring. He moved up this time though, so instead of being an almost 5-year-old in the 3-4 year old league like last fall, he is now a barely 5-year-old playing in the 5-6 year old league with a bunch of almost 7-year-olds on his team.

In other words... big fish, little pond to little fish, big pond analogy. He got frustrated from time to time that the other kids could kick it harder than him and run faster than him, but for the most part, he held his own and did really well scoring a few goals here and there for his team.

We love going to watch him and love that he asks us to cheer loudly for him. He gets so excited whenever he makes a good run or scores a goal... it is awesome!

Easter Morning

The only time I am grateful for late church is on holiday mornings. We had such a wonderful time reflecting on the Atonement of Christ, participating in old traditions and hanging out as a family all morning long. A very relaxing time filled with lots of joy.
